More Check-Ups

Today was Kelsey's two month check-up with the pediatrician and she is doing great! Her pediatrician was almost as shocked as we were to find out about Kelsey's heart defect. She said Kelsey is her first patient to be diagnosed with AVC defect at a month old-they usually find it sooner, and Kelsey looks so healthy. She is growing like a weed, which is a great thing. She weighs 10 lbs 4.5 oz (34%) and is 23" long (69%). The only thing of concern at this point, other than her heart, is her head circumference. She measured 14 1/2" which is in the ninth percentile. Kelsey does have a flat spot to the back and right side of her head, which her doctor thinks is from her favoring that side and always laying on that one area.

She had a cardiology appointment yesterday and there is nothing new to report. Which as they say, "No news is good news." Especially in this case! The cardiologist even made a comment that nobody would know anything is wrong just by looking at her.

Both the cardiologist and pediatrician want to see her back in a month to make sure she is still growing well and everything still looks good. The pediatrician will be checking her head again and of course her growth. If Kelsey's head does not start to catch up with the rest of her measurements she will have to see a neurosurgeon to make sure the bones in her skull are ok.

Logan is doing great as well. He starts preschool on August 9, so we will see how that goes. I hope he will love it and do well. I don't think he really understands what school is, although he does talk about going to school. The other day he asked me if I was going to go to school with him. Of course I had to tell me no, but then he wanted to know if I was going to drive him to school, which I am, so he was happy about that.

Kelsey's Cardiology Update

Today we had a follow-up appointment with the cardiologist and got a great report. Kelsey is gaining weight very nicely-she gained a pound in two weeks! Her oxygen levels were great-98-100%, and her EKG was fine. The doctor said that she wants to aim for Kelsey's surgery to be in November. This will put her having her surgery before cold and flu season. She really doesn't want her to have her surgery during that time, for obvious reasons, and if we wait until Kelsey is closer to a year old, something could come up and cause her to need her surgery sooner, in which case we would risk it being right in the middle of the cold and flu season. The doctor also said that if they needed to do the surgery right now (which they don't) Kelsey is already at a good size, but the longer we wait the bigger she will get; and the bigger the better! This is great news and we hope to continue to recieve this type of news until it's time for the surgery.

I will keep you updated on the lastest news as we learn of it. We have another appointment scheduled for July 20 with the cardiologist and July 21 for her two month check-up.
